DAVE Brett, owner of North Vancouver's Griffins Boxing and Fitness, was recently honoured with the Coaches Association of B.C.'s Recreational/ Grassroots Coach of the Year Award.

Opened in 2004, Griffins now has more than 900 members. Brett helped develop the club's Glove System, an innovative, non-contact, goalsetting process used to teach boxing to new participants in the sport.

"I have been a longtime advocate of amateur boxing, and I have created an environment in my gym that promotes positive changes in people's lives," Brett said in a release. The award was presented as part of British Columbia Coaches Week, an initiative of Coaches B.C. that ran Sept. 15-22.
