Firus to make senior Grand Prix debut Friday

NORTH Vancouver figure skater Liam Firus will make his first appearance in an ISU Senior Grand Prix event this weekend at the Skate Canada International in Windsor, Ont.

The field for the event will include several world-class skaters, including current world champion and fellow Canadian Patrick Chan.

Firus, 20, was Canada's national junior champion in 2010 and finished eighth at the 2012 Junior World Championships held in Minsk, Belarus. The top six finishers from a series of Grand Prix events make it to the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final to be held Dec. 6-9 in Sochi, Russia.

This weekend the men's short program will be held Friday evening and will be broadcast on TSN2 while the free program will go Saturday evening and will be shown on CTV.
