North Vancouver’s Alex Comsia was named an NCAA Elite 90 Award winner following an impressive season with the University of North Carolina’s men’s soccer team.

The award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship tournament. Comsia, a pre-business major who carries a 3.98 grade point average, was also named a third team Academic All-American in October.

The sophomore started every match in 2016 as a central defender for the Tar Heels, helping lead a defensive group that allowed only 11 goals in 24 games.

North Carolina made the NCAA College Cup national semifinals where they lost to Stanford 10-9 in penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw.
