ALICIA Catalano of the Capilano University women's volleyball team was named Pacwest female athlete of the week after a pair of strong performances against Camosun College last month.
The six-foot middle blocker led the Blues to a pair of 3-0 wins over the Chargers Jan. 13-14, helping Capilano maintain their hold on third place in the league.
In the Friday game Catalano led the Blues with 11 kills on 16 swings while making no hitting errors. She also led the team with four stuff blocks.
The following day Catalano was back at it with nine kills, no errors, five blocks and one ace as the blues finished their sweep of the Chargers. Catalano scored 30 points over the course of the two matches for an average of five points per set. Injured for much of the first half of the season, she has recently regained her health and is developing into one of the league's dominant middle blockers.
