Butterworth takes GNAC 1,500-m title

NORTH Vancouver's Lindsey Butterworth won the women's 1,500-metre title at 2012 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships held May 12 in Monmouth, Ore. The Simon Fraser University sophomore clocked a time of 4: 28.

The Simon Fraser University sophomore clocked a time of 4: 28.77 to take the title, defeating No. 1-ranked runner Susan Tanui of Alaska Anchorage. Butterworth, a middle-distance specialist, chose to run the 1,500-m race despite coming into the meet as the No. 1-ranked athlete at the 800-m distance.

The Handsworth grad also teamed up with Sarah Sawatzky, Michaela Kane and Abbey Vogt to finish third in the women's 4x400-m relay.
