North Vancouver’s Bryn Parry shot a cool 67 in the final round to claim championship honours in the inaugural playing of the of the Vancouver Golf Tour’s Fraser Valley Open held over the Labour Day long weekend.
Parry shot eight-under 207 through three rounds played at three different courses to win the tournament. He started with a bang, shooting an opening-round best 69 at the Falls Golf Club in Chilliwack, and ended on a high as well, topping the field again with a score of 67 in the final round held at Chilliwack Golf Club.
A second round 71 at Sandpiper Golf Course put him into a dogfight with Burnaby’s John Shin that wouldn’t be resolved until the final round’s back nine where Parry overcame a three-shot deficit to win by one stroke, knocking in a five-foot par putt on 18 to clinch the title.
Parry has dominated at Chilliwack Golf Club throughout his career, winning the Chilliwack Open there six times as well as four other tournaments held at the course. His win at the Fraser Valley Open earned him a $1,800 cheque and 2,500 points towards the Cleveland/Srixon Order of Merit race.
On the amateur side of the tournament Greg Trammell of Capilano Golf and Country Club took the win, knocking off Abbotsford’s Nick Guenther on the first playoff hole after the pair tied for first with identical three-round scores of plus-three 218.
