THE Capilano Blues women's basketball team will look to defend their 2011 provincial title on their home floor this weekend as the university plays host to the Pacwest championships.

The action gets underway tomorrow with the third-ranked Blues taking on the sixth-ranked Kwantlen Eagles in quarterfinal action at 1 p.m.. The Blues finished the year on a hot streak, winning seven of their last games. Their overall record of 13-3 placed them third behind 15-1 UNBC and 14-2 VIU and this weekend's tournament looks to be a showdown between those three squads.

If the Blues get past Kwantlen they'll face the VIU Mariners in semifinal play Friday at 1 p.m. The Blues and Mariners split their two meeting this year with Capilano winning the most recent contest 70-68 at home on Feb. 17.

Meanwhile the Capilano men will be shooting to move up a spot or two after winning bronze at last year's tournament. Ranked fifth in the league, the Blues men will take on fourth-ranked Langara in quarterfinal play Thursday at 8 p.m. If they get by the Falcons they'll move on to face the No. 1-ranked VIU Mariners. The championship finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday night. Visit pacwestbc.ca/2012basketball for updated tournament information.
