He'll represent Canada in the omnium, a new Olympic discipline that combines six races into one event. Bell is a two-time track cycling World Championship silver medalist, most recently finishing second at the 2012 worlds held in Melbourne.

Bell, a native of Watson Lake, Yukon, finished in seventh place in the men's point race and 12th in the men's madison team event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The Canadian Olympic track cycling team will be coached by North Vancouver resident Richard Woooles.
