West Van District Mayor Mike Smith and a group of school children, will be opening the site on Saturday April 27th, at 11: 30am with a special ribbon cutting event. Master of Ceremonies - Don Dunbar, local resident and head of the Memorial Park Enclave will acknowledge John Barker and Bill McAllister of the West Vancouver Streamkeepers who were the co-leads of the project and Dan Henegar, District Parks staff member who led the project on behalf of the District, as well as District staff Andrew Banks and Corinne Ambor who assisted on the project. The Coho Society provided a $10,000 grant for this project.

The rearing pond creates a safe haven for juvenile coho and cutthroat trout, somewhere where they are not subject to the impact of low water in the summer or winter storms- they're safe in the pond throughout the year," said West Vancouver Streamkeeper Society president John Barker.

The pond is an amenity and improvement to the Park that will be enjoyed by the community. Memorial Park can be found adjacent to McDonald Creek, across from the library on Marine Drive in West Vancouver.
