Anyone heading to the Burrard Dry Dock Pier this week to enjoy the warm, sunny weather may get a chance to observe a massive Royal Canadian Air Force plane fly low overhead.

On Wednesday, July 2, a CP-140 Aurora will take part in a ceremony honouring HMCS Vancouver on the North Vancouver waterfront.

The aircraft is scheduled to fly past the pier at approximately 9:50 a.m.

During the flyby, the grey four-engine propellor-driven plane will fly at an altitude “no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle, such as a building or tree, in their path.”

HMCS Vancouver is being awarded Battle Honor LIBYA, 2011 for its participation in Operation MOBILE, which was the Canadian Armed Forces’ contribution to the international response to the popular uprising in Libya against the regime of Muammar Gaddafi, an announcement from the Royal Canadian Air Force states

The aircraft comes from the 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron, which served in an intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance role during Operation MOBILE.
