West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country member of Parliament John Weston is locked down in Ottawa after a shooting on Parliament Hill Wednesday morning.

Josh Hemond, Weston’s director of communications told North Shore News’ sister paper the Coast Reporter just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning that the Conservative MP was safe in a room on the Hill with other MPs and security officers.

“John is safe, but unable to communicate with anyone,” said Hemond. “Police have asked that everyone not use their cell phones in case other suspected shooters are monitoring social media channels. I did speak with him before everyone was asked to end their communications.”

According to national medial outlets, as many as two people were injured, including a soldier at the National War Memorial, after several shots were fired at the national capitol.

The gunman then fled the scene making his way to Parliament Hill where more gunfire was unleashed inside Centre Block. A security guard was injured before the sergeant-at-arms killed the shooting suspect.
