THE West Vancouver Police Department has updated its online crime mapping service with new information.
The online map, available through the police department's main website at wvpd.ca, maps out where certain types of crime are happening in the district.
Two new added layers, labelled "Analytics" and "Metadata," now break the information down even further, by the type of crime and time of day.
The goal of the maps is to have residents check up on their community, so if they saw something suspicious they might see if it could be related to nearby crime reports, said crime analyst Michelle Brander.
"If they're looking at the crime map and seeing there's something going on in their neighbourhood, we're hoping they'll be more likely to give us a call to report any suspicious activity," she said.
