Vehicle destroyed by fire on busy North Van street (VIDEO)

City of North Vancouver firefighters raced to douse a fire that erupted in a vehicle parked on a busy commercial street in Lower Lonsdale Wednesday morning.

The fire sent a pillar of thick black smoke into the air on West Esplanade, which was captured on video by witnesses.

Fire chief Greg Shalk said the vehicle was destroyed by fire around 10:30 a.m.

Investigators were called to the scene but Schalk said it’s not clear what caused the vehicle to burst into flame.

He added the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
