A North Vancouver man will be facing charges after getting caught with a load of contraband tobacco in Squamish.
According to a release from the RCMP’s BC Highway Patrol, officers nabbed the 42-year-old man – who was under a driving prohibition – in a pickup truck near downtown Squamish on Saturday, Aug. 9.
While investigating, police found approximately seven cases of unstamped contraband tobacco products.
“The driver of the pickup was suspected to be operating an illegal tobacco store,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Now he will face a court date for both prohibited driving and possession of an unstamped tobacco product under Section 32(1) of the Excise Act.”
In June, North Vancouver RCMP seized 104 full cartons and 247 packs of black market cigarettes from a home on the 700 block of West 20th Street. The suspect in that case was also released pending a later court date.
