West Vancouver Fire and Rescue is investigating a blaze that dealt serious damage to a home and sent two people to hospital.

Crews were called to a home on St. Giles Road in the British Properties just after 4 p.m. Wednesday where they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from an older home, according to assistant fire chief Jeff Bush.

West Vancouver responded with five trucks and another four were called in from North Vancouver for support. By 6 p.m., the fire was out but crews stayed on the scene watching for hot spots.

One resident was treated for minor injuries and one North Vancouver firefighter assisting on the call fell from a ladder also sustaining minor injuries.

Police say the fire is not suspicious and they have not been asked to investigate further. It is believed the fire started in a stovetop pot.
