THE fares on the bus go up and up.
Almost all transit fares are slated to rise beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
Adult fares are slated to jump by a quarter on one-and two-zone tickets, and from $5 to $5.50 on three-zone fares.
Concession fares will also tick up by 25 cents on two-and three-zone fares. Single zone fares are scheduled to remain steady at $1.75.
Discount adult fares will move from $2.50 to $2.75.
The day pass is set to rise from $9 to $9.75.
One-zone monthly passes are slated to rise from $81 to $91. Two-zone passes are scheduled to go from $110 to $124, and three-zone monthly passes are set to rise from $151 to $170.
The concession rate for monthly passes will also rise from $46.50 to $52.
West Coast Express fares are set to increase by approximately 12.5 per cent.
Adult FareSaver tickets and some Canada Line YVR AddFares are not scheduled to increase.
With no bump in cash fares since 2008, this increase is meant to put the transit provider's rates in step with inflation, which is approximately two per cent a year.
Beginning this December, TransLink is planning to add 109,000 new service hours over the next three years, paid for in part by the fare increase. The augmentation includes bus service across the Port Mann Bridge and the new B-Line route on King George Boulevard.
Fares make up approximately one-third of TransLink's revenue.
The number of transit riders has increased 17 per cent over the last three years, according to a release from TransLink.
The new fares were approved by Metro Vancouver Mayors' Council in 2009.
