Police are looking for clues after thieves made off with a pricey piece of equipment from a car that was left parked in North Vancouver overnight.

The culprits broke into the rental car in the 1400-block of Sowden Street sometime between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday night and scooped up a specialized electronic device called a Site Master cable and antenna analyzer worth $10,000. The expensive handheld gizmo is used in the installation and maintenance of wireless systems.

Investigators are hoping the public has information that could help them track the thief down. The crime was one a numerous smash-and-grabs to hit the area in recent weeks, they said.

With the warmer weather there has been an increase of reported thefts from vehicles, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, a spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP. By taking preventative measures, like removing all valuables from your vehicle when parked and locking it and activating the alarm, thieves will be deterred.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the detachment at 604-985-1311.
