A teenage boy has serious injuries after falling off a cliff ledge near Cypress Falls Park in West Vancouver.

West Vancouver Fire and Rescue responded to the park around 10:50 a.m., after the Grade 8 Rockridge secondary school student fell while in the park for a physical education activity, according to Carolyn Warner, West Vancouver school district communications assistant.

"He has been pulled out by fire and rescue. He is being loaded into a B.C. Ambulance helicopter with a suspected broken femur and some abrasions," she said. "He's conscious. He's alert. He's talking. His parents are both here."

The boy is being taken to B.C. Children's Hospital.
