THREE men have been arrested for allegedly poaching fish from the Capilano River Hatchery.

North Vancouver RCMP were called to the facility around 3: 30 a.m. Wednesday after someone tripped the security alarm.

"Police discovered close to the front gate approximately 30 dead adult coho salmon in a plastic wagon," said Cpl. Richard de Jong in a release.

"It was apparent that culprits had broken into the hatchery and from one of the covered pools, removed and killed the fish."

Officers also found a large fishing net nearby. Police called in a canine unit, and scoured the area for the thieves. They soon spotted three men walking down Capilano Road and took them in for questioning.

Investigators are looking to charge two suspects from Vancouver and one from Chemainus with break and enter, mischief and offences under the Wildlife Act.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
