Summer got off to a running start on the North Shore this past weekend.
While the Victoria Day long weekend usually marks the unofficial start of summer, balmy temperatures that hit the Lower Mainland Saturday and Sunday moved that up a notch.
Temperatures hit 28.5 C at the West Vancouver weather station Sunday, creeping down to a high of 27.5 C on Monday.
That didn’t smash any records, but felt a lot more like July or August than mid-May.
Both Squamish and Whistler set temperature records, with Squamish hitting 29.6 C on Sunday and Whistler climbing to smoking 31 C on Monday.
Temperatures are expected to cool off a bit for the rest of the week, with sunshine mixing with cloudier skies, said Cindy Yu, Environment Canada meteorologist.
The long weekend is expected to be sunny, with temperatures in the low twenties.
