NORTH Shore athlete Billy Peterson was recently awarded the 2012 Special Olympics B.C. Spirit of Sport Award, one of the organization's five annual provincial honours.
According to a written statement, Peterson, 20, has been with Special Olympics for six years and is an accomplished basketball player. He also participates in softball and gives his time as a spare scorekeeper for Special Olympics B.C. North Shore's five-pin bowling program. In their nomination, Peterson's coaches celebrated his natural leadership skills, the positive feedback he receives from community partners and that he is often looked to as a role model.
