Shane is a young man who found his niche! After completing high school, Shane decided to just get "a job" without a lot of thought. In December 2011, after working a few years, Shane joined Employment ConneXions to receive Supported Employment Services so he could find a job he liked. Through this support, Shane's interests and abilities emerged, and he expressed that he wanted to try working in a restaurant as a busser.

To confirm that this career direction was 'right' for Shane, he began to volunteer with the Lunch Program at John Braithwaite Community Centre. Shane discovered he enjoyed the work and now had the answer "Yes, this is a career I will enjoy!"

Through his volunteer efforts serving and bussing, supported by a positive reference from his volunteer work, Shane and an Employment ConneXions Vocational Counsellor approached Amanda, the General Manager at Red Robin on Marine Drive in North Vancouver. In March 2011, Shane was hired as a part time sales support employee (busser).

Red Robin provides all their staff with a detailed training manual to study. Job shadowing and regular quizzes are also a part of the training. Shane showed his commitment to study by meeting regularly with his Vocational Counsellor to review the material and practice the quizzes. His focused approach resulted in 100% on the quizzes, and his efforts were recognized by Red Robin with the presentation of the Red Robin Super Star Pin.

Shane states that he agrees with Red Robin's "Unbridled Philosophy" ---living the company's values ---by going "above and beyond" with random acts of kindness to their guests, each other, the community and to complete strangers!

Shane says he also believes in Red Robin's "Values": Honor, Integrity, Continually Seeking Knowledge, and Having Fun. If you haven't been to Red Robin on your birthday, give it a try ---you are in for a fun time!
