An 81-year-old woman is in hospital and an 81-year-old man is facing fines and potentially losing his licence after a hit-and-run in North Vancouver Wednesday.

RCMP members received several calls from witnesses just after 12:30 p.m. after they saw the driver hit the woman as she was crossing in the marked crosswalk at Keith Road and St. Andrews Avenue.

“He struck her on the right leg and ultimately ran over her foot as well,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “Eyewitnesses saw this and followed him down to (Lonsdale) Quay where he parked his car. . .  The driver is fully co-operative. He claims to not even be aware of striking the pedestrian.”

The victim was taken to Lions Gate Hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery after treatment to her leg and foot. The driver is facing violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Police will also write to the superintendent of motor vehicles to request that the man’s licence be reviewed, which typically involves being retested.
