Starting next week, those heading to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park better bring their credit card in addition to some hiking shoes.

Seasonal pay parking at the popular hiking spot comes into effect Monday (March 29).

The cost for parking will be $2 per hour, payable by credit card, and will be in effect everyday until Oct. 31, according to Metro Vancouver, which has jurisdiction over the park. Metro is still looking into the possibility of establishing daily rates.

There will be no time limit on the length of time a vehicle may stay parked, though parking times are limited to the park open and close hours, which range from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. or 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., depending on the time of year.

Pay parking is being introduced at the park due to increased demand for vehicle access which has been leading to traffic congestion and overflow parking into adjacent neighbourhoods, according to Metro.

The District of North Vancouver is set to launch its own pay parking pilot at Lynn Canyon Park as well. Although council is looking to introduce a pay parking pass for district residents, Metro reminds park users that that pass will only be valid at Lynn Canyon, not at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.
