The North Vancouver School District has approved a new eight-year lease with the private Kenneth Gordon School which will allow the school to continue using school district property at 420 Seymour River Place in Maplewood.

The new lease will begin Aug. 1, 2019 and run until 2027.

It gives the private school, which provides specialized instruction for students with learning disabilities, exclusive use of the school, five portable classrooms and grounds between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on school days, with shared use of the playground, fields and parking areas in the evenings and on days when school is not in session.

Under the terms of the lease, the society that operates Kenneth Gordon will pay the school district annual rent starting at $370,000 a year and rising to $440,000 a year.

Secretary-treasurer Georgia Allison noted the lease contains a clause allowing either party to end the arrangement early, provided three years’ notice is given.
