SIX commercial trailers and two taxi cabs were pulled off the road April 12 after provincial commercial vehicle safety inspectors and the RCMP conducted a check stop in North Vancouver.
Provincial inspectors and RCMP officers from North Vancouver's traffic section handed out 24 safety violation tickets over a six-hour period of stopping commercial vehicles near the Main Street off-ramp.
The six trailers pulled off the road did not have their brakes hooked up properly, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP. One vehicle was ticketed for failing to display a dangerous cargo sign, while one new driver got a $109 fine for displaying a homemade "N" sign.
Two taxi cabs were also pulled over for being unsafe. One had a bent frame from a previous accident, said De Jong, while the other had malfunctioning brakes.
De Jong said the check stops are about making sure vehicles on the road are safe and about educating the public.
De Jong said the stops will likely be a more regular occurrence over the summer months.
