Recycle bins to replace garbage cans

THE City of North Vancouver is taking recycling to the street this April

The city is planning to erect 15 recycling bins in prominent locations to collect the mixed paper, newspapers and drink containers that frequently wind up in the landfill.

The program is a response to a recent city waste audit that found high amounts of recyclable materials routinely dumped into on-street garbage cans.

The recycling containers are scheduled to eventually replace many of the city's pole-mounted trash containers and single-stream garbage cans.

The recycling initiative is under the umbrella of Living City, a program dedicated to making North Vancouver more livable and more sustainable.

The program is scheduled to be heralded with a celebration Tuesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in the civic plaza at 14th Street and Lonsdale Avenue.

Mayor Darrell Mussatto is scheduled to attend.
