RCMP look for citizen assault footage

NORTH Vancouver RCMP say someone on the North Shore may be walking around with critical evidence in an assault case recorded on his smartphone.

NORTH Vancouver RCMP say someone on the North Shore may be walking around with critical evidence in an assault case recorded on his smartphone.

The victim in the case was walking across the intersection of East Keith Road and Brooksbank Avenue around noon on Friday when a driver got out of his vehicle and attacked, according to police.

It was minor in nature but it was totally unprovoked, apparently, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.

The only independent witness was another pedestrian who told the victim afterwards that he had recorded the scrap with his cellphone, De Jong said.

There are two stories that are conflicting with each other, so it would be great if this independent videographer came forward, De Jong said.

Both the suspect and the victim are co-operating with police but no details about why the two came blows are being released.

The investigator has some theories, but were keeping that as part of the investigation at this point, De Jong said.

The witness with the video evidence is asked to contact Const. Adrian Bissenden at 604-985-1311.
