It's not exactly cats and dogs, but the North Shore will be hit by a heavy rainstorm today, according to a warning by Environment Canada.

A frontal system carrying with it mild subtropical air to the southwest coast of B.C. is forecast to bring 100 millimetres of rain to the North Shore today and Wednesday.

The same system will bring wild weather to much of the southwest, with rainfall of up to 200 mm on western Vancouver Island, and heavy though less significant rains across the Lower Mainland.

High winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour are expected to batter the Sunshine Coast, the northern tip of Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii and the North Coast.
