A prohibited driver who pulled a U-turn just before a police roadblock in North Vancouver found his fortunes taking a quick 180 when he was pulled over.

The driver, a North Vancouver man in his 40s, attracted police attention as he approached a roadblock in the 2200 block of Capilano Road shortly before 11 p.m. on Dec. 4, and then quickly turned about face to avoid police.

But his plan went south after an officer pulled him over a short distance away, and the reason for his evasive action became clear. Not only was the man not supposed to be behind the wheel as a prohibited driver, he also had eight previous driving prohibitions, plus two more in process, said Sgt. Peter DeVries, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

The man’s 2018 Dodge charger was impounded for seven days, said DeVries. RCMP are also recommending a criminal charge of driving while prohibited.
