Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be paying a visit to the North Vancouver waterfront Thursday to make an announcement relating to the $8-billion shipbuilding contract awarded to Seaspan Shipyards in the fall.

Harper will be addressing media at Seaspans Pemberton Avenue facility at 3:30 p.m. His office has not released specifics.

The longtime North Vancouver shipbuilder won the deal to build as many as 24 non-combat vessels for the federal government Oct. 19. It is expected to produce 4,000 jobs, 3,200 of them on the North Shore.

Harper will appear at Seaspan 10 hours after he is due to visit a shipyard in Halifax that received a $25-billion federal contract as part of the same bidding process.
