The event marked the signing of an agreement between the province and the Taku River Tlingit First Nation that created 13 new protected areas totaling about 5,600 square kilometres in the Atlin Taku region of northwestern B.C. and set formal guidelines for mining and development on another 30,000 square kilometres of the area.
