It was pouring down low and snowing up high on the North Shore Tuesday as Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for North and West Vancouver.

A Pacific frontal system is moving across the South Coast today, dumping rain, at times heavy, on most parts of the region. Total rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimetres are expected over Howe Sound, the North Shore, and Metro Vancouver-Northeast, including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge by late this afternoon. Forecasters say the rain will ease early this evening as the system weakens.

The wet stuff has turned white at higher elevations. The West Vancouver Police Department’s traffic unit sent out a notice today indicating that winter or M+S tires are now required for travel on Cypress Bowl Road. On Tuesday morning they reported 12 centimetres of fresh snow on the road up to Cypress Mountain.

You might want to make sure you have a nice supply of dry socks ready to go – the latest forecast calls for rain every day for at least the next week.
