In 1907, William and Elizabeth Baxter emigrated from Scotland to Canada and purchased five lots on the west side of Grand Boulevard, later taking out two permits: one for the erection of a tent, as principal dwelling, and one for a shack which would serve as Elizabeth's real estate office.
William operated a nursery and supplied North Vancouver gardeners with flowers, especially dahlias. Elizabeth ran her real estate business until 1920.
The nursery lasted until Elizabeth's death in 1952, but William lived on in the tent until 1954. Photographs of the nursery and home were taken by their son George.
