West Vancouver police are looking for a suspect who decided the best thing to do after getting into a car accident was run off into the bushes.

Investigators were called to the Highway 1 onramp at Taylor Way just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a two-vehicle collision. Witnesses told police a male driver from one of the vehicles jumped out of the car he was in and ran south towards the Cedardale neighbourhood, according to Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

Officers called in the K9 unit to help sniff the man out, but as of Thursday afternoon, he was still unaccounted for. The car was reported stolen from Burnaby late Wednesday.

Police have seized the car and are hoping evidence inside will help lead them to a suspect in the hit-and-run.

“It was a very vague (suspect) description so at this point the investigators are going to work to follow forensic leads,” Palmer said.

A 63-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, both from North Vancouver, were taken to hospital for a precautionary assessment of apparently minor injuries.  Both were released from hospital later in the evening.

“Fortunately the injuries were quite minor but obviously its of concern to us when an individual involved in a collision elects to run away,” Palmer said.
