A 17-year-old is facing charges of theft after allegedly shoplifting an iPhone from the Best Buy store at Park Royal Shopping Centre last week.

West Vancouver police received a report of a theft in progress just after 1 p.m. on March 6. Officers attended the scene and got descriptions of two young male suspects, who were still at Park Royal. The boys fled when police approached.

One was apprehended after a brief foot chase through the Park Royal parking lot. The second one, now facing charges, was picked up with the iPhone nearby around 1: 30 p.m.

Police say iPhones, which are valued at about $650, are popular targets for thieves, and owners should take extra caution to protect them from theft.
