SHARKWATER
This 2007 documentary by Canadian diver Rob Stewart - about sharks and the cruel practice of slicing off their fins for soup - is as relevant today as it was five years ago. Communities around Metro Vancouver, including Port Moody, Coquitlam, Burnaby and North Vancouver City, have banned or have considered banning the Chinese banquet soup; but the more populous communities of Vancouver and Richmond still allow the delicacy to be sold. Demand has created a black market that has decimated 90 per cent of the planet's sharks. This story of a few dedicated activists against pirates and police won 22 international film awards.
