North Vancouver rioters could face charges

POLICE are recommending charges against two more people from North Vancouver for taking part in the Stanley Cup hockey riot in June.

POLICE are recommending charges against two more people from North Vancouver for taking part in the Stanley Cup hockey riot in June.

Vancouver police said Monday two people from North Vancouver are among 20 more suspects they are recommending be criminally charged in connection with the riot.

Names of the alleged rioters haven't been released yet, but police said all are between 15 and 26, with an average age of 19.

Police are recommending 52 charges against those 20 people. The most common charge is participating in a riot, or mischief.

Monday's announcement marks the second time Vancouver police have come forward with recommended charges in connection with the riot which broke out after the Vancouver Canucks were defeated by the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals on June 15.

So far, 27 people have been charged with 69 offences. Among those is 23-year-old Matthew William Cottrell of North Vancouver who faces one charge of breaking and entering and one charge of participating in a riot. His next court appearance is set for January.
