North Van celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak found dead

NORTH Vancouver celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak died Friday at age 29 from an undiagnosed medical condition.

Sedlak, the host of Food Network Canada's "The Main" and a judge on "Family Cook Off," was found in his North Vancouver apartment Friday at around 7 p.m., according to a release from the family.

The chef discovered a passion for food and restaurants at a young age. By 19, he had completed a culinary arts program and four-year apprenticeship at Vancouver Community College. Sedlak went on to spend two years at La Trompette, a Michelin Star restaurant in London.

He represented Canada at the World Junior Chef Challenge in Auckland, New Zealand, at 23 and won silver in the competition. Later that year, he competed in and won Food Network's Superstar Chef Challenge.

Recently, Sedlak had done several cooking videos as part of The Vancouver Sun's Empowered Health series.

The chef hosted four seasons of "The Main" on Food Network, and later wrote a best-selling cookbook based on the series.

Sedlak co-opened The American Cheesesteak Co. restaurant in Vancouver earlier this year, and had recently begun reinventing the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites' restaurants and room service menus. He had been spending most of his time in Toronto preparing for the hotel's official launch.
