James Weldon took gold for best environmental writing at the 2012 B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Awards - otherwise known as the Ma Murray Awards.
Cindy Goodman won gold for best sports photo, edging fellow North Shore News photographer Mike Wakefield, who captured silver.
Manisha Krishnan earned gold for outdoor recreation writing.
Trixi Agrios snagged gold for putting together the top classified section.
Vicki Magnison and Deana Lancaster walked away with silver in the special publication category.
At the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards, the News won the Outstanding Community Service for the support it gave to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation's fundraising campaign for a new mental health centre.
Editor Martin Millerchip won third for best feature story among newspapers with a circulation greater than 12,500.
The News also took third place in the Best Holiday Edition category.
