IT was an evening coloured in gold and silver for the North Shore News Saturday night.

The 2013 British Columbia Yukon Community Newspaper Awards gala, held at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, saw the paper collect a total of six Ma Murray awards and place as a blue-ribbon finalist for overall excellence.

"I am so proud of all of our employees and contributors," said publisher Doug Foot. "Our content is of a consistent high standard because of their hard work and that was confirmed by the judges tonight."

Trevor Lautens took first place in the Columnist Award.

The team of Dee Dhaliwal, Adrian Cunningham and Deana Lancaster took first place for Nourish in the Special Section Award.

Vicki Magnison and Birgit Brunner took first place with their Visitors' Guide in the Special Publications Award.

Collecting silver awards for second place were:

Andy Prest in the Outdoor Recreation Writing category;

Jane Seyd in the Environmental Writing; and,

Mike Wakefield for colour feature photography.
