AN American mountain biker has died on the trails on Mount Fromme, outside Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

Two cyclists were riding the Pipeline Trail around 12:30 p.m. Monday when they came across an unresponsive man who appeared to have fallen from a trail obstacle called a balance board or teeter plank, according to North Vancouver RCMP.

The witnesses performed CPR and called emergency services, however all efforts to revive the victim failed.

North Shore Rescue volunteers were called in to remove the body, using a helicopter and longline harness, typically used for rescuing hikers injured in remote areas.

The body of the 38-year-old Jeffrey Fields, of Boise, Idaho, is now with the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the exact cause of death.

Fields family has been notified and is requesting privacy in the wake of the tragedy.

District of North Vancouver staff were on site Tuesday to carry out an inspection of the trail and structures. Preliminary inspection indicates that there were no problems with any of the structures and that all signage was in place, according to municipal spokeswoman Jeanine Bratina.

Pipeline is a black diamond-rated, or highly challenging, trail.
