THIS year's hopes for a Canucks Stanley Cup win may be over, but last year's hockey riot will continue to be replayed in the courts for several people from North Vancouver.
Vancouver police have recommended charges against 11 residents of the community in connection with the June 2011 incident. That's just over six per cent of all alleged rioters.
Police have recommended 27 charges against the North Vancouver suspects, who range in age from 16 to 26 years old. Four of those people - including three adults and one teenager - have been formally charged.
Twenty-two year-old Todd Gartland of North Vancouver is the latest North Shore resident to be accused. Gartland faces charges of participating in a riot and break and enter.
In total, 85 people have been charged with 225 alleged offences in connection with the riot that broke out after the Vancouver Canucks were defeated by the Boston Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals on June 15 last year.
The North Vancouver cases are all still before the courts.
The Canucks' elimination from the playoffs on Sunday is expected to save about $1 million that had been budgeted to police the playoffs in Vancouver.
Police said this week the crowd leaving Rogers Arena after the Canucks' overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings Sunday night was very subdued.
