A 60-year-old woman missing from a North Vancouver seniors home for almost a week has been found unharmed.

Ruth Elizabeth Mitchell was located by police in a park near to her care home Thursday morning shortly after 10 a.m., following a tip from the public.

Mitchell appeared to be in good condition, said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP.

Police put out a call for assistance from the public Wednesday afternoon after friends and family said they hadn’t seen Mitchell since the evening of May 8.

Mitchell lives in an independent unit of the care home on Burr Place and was not restricted from leaving the home, police added.

But friends and relatives became concerned after they couldn’t find her, adding it was out of character for her to be gone for more than four days.

DeJong said it wasn’t clear where Mitchell had been during that time, adding it appears she spent a portion of that time outdoors.
