The family-friendly event, which runs noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, will showcase, among other things, West Vancouvers ninth annual lifeguarding competition taking place for the first time in the view of the public. The communitys lifesavers will compete for fun and bragging rights in first-aid and scene assessment challenges, a fitness test, a priority action course and other contests.

The beach-based event will also feature rowboat rides and obstacle courses for kids, safety activities led by the WaterWise Safety Team, a visit by Buckles the Lifejacket and other attractions. Most activities will be geared toward children under10.

Representatives for AmblesideNow will also be on site presenting an account of the areas history as well as plans for its future.

Festivities kick off at noon in the 1200-block of Argyle Avenue.
