Letter: More rental housing could help traffic concerns

More rental housing enabling local workers to live locally would relieve much of the commuters traffic in and out of the region, says reader.

The traffic in and out of North Vancouver could be lessened if local workers were able to live locally too, says reader.

Dear Editor:

As a North Shore Realtor, I have been dismayed for years at the rampant development in both North and West Vancouver.

Our local governments have been negligent in allowing massive developments without any regard to planning for transportation concerns both around and off the North Shore.

The millions spent on the north end of the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing has done nothing to ease congestion. It’s just moved it around.

Real estate in the area is very expensive and many workers live off the North Shore in more affordable areas.

We need much, much more rental housing so that non-North Shore workers can live and work here. That would be a start at relieving traffic pressure.

Whether it’s social housing or subsidized housing, we need more rentals.
