One of Metro Vancouver's favourite spots for tacos and other casual Mexican eats is saying "Adios!" to a decade-old location.
La Taqueria announced on Tuesday, Aug. 26, it is shuttering its taco shop and commissary kitchen in North Vancouver in a matter of days.
According to a social media post, La Taqueria has moved its commissary ops to Vancouver, specifically to its Yukon Street spot.
In the past year, the Yukon Street La Taqueria, which is located near Cambie and Broadway, has experienced a few purpose and identity shifts, as the northern half of the large dining room was split to welcome Michelin Guide-endorsed Chupito to its new home. That move was prompted by the the closure of the original La Taqueria on West Hastings (and Chupito's back-of-the-building space) due to demolition.
The North Van La Taqueria, at 1305 Welch St #213, opened in February 2015. The modest taco shop space was a welcome companion to the business' commissary facilities, which is where the restaurant made all its tortillas.
"The pursuit of a dedicated, functional tortilleria likely also explains why the North Shore location of La Taqueria is housed in the commercial park on Welch Street, that narrow industrial strip nestled between the Spirit Trail and West First Street," Chris Dagenais described in March 2015 in the North Shore News.
At the time, the North Van outpost was La Taqueria's third.
In mid-May this year, La Taqueria bid farewell to its West Hastings restaurant. The closure had been in the works for some time, in tandem with the build out of the new restaurant location a few blocks west at Seymour and Hastings.
Though La Taqueria teased fans with a Canada Day free taco giveaway this summer at the new Seymour restaurant, no opening date has been set just yet.
"We can’t wait to share more with you soon!" offered La Taqueria in its North Van closure post.
Speaking of North Van, La Taqueria will wrap things up this weekend there: "Please join us this Saturday, August 30 for one last taco fiesta in the North Shore!"
Additionally, the La Taqueria team extends its appreciation to its customers over the past 10 years in North Vancouver.
"It truly has been our pleasure serving you and being a part of the lovely neighbourhood and community," they say, adding: "Thank you again for the continuous support and we look forward to seeing you in La Taqueria North Vancouver this week! Adios!"
Along with its Yukon Street restaurant and the forthcoming Downtown Vancouver one, La Taqueria also has a location in Burnaby at the Amazing Brentwood.
