Creating original music on his computer late into the night is a passion for John-Paul (JP). Some great artists that influence him are: Primus, Mudvayne and Skinny Puppy. He wanted a position to reflect his interest in all things media-related.
In order to make this happen, he applied to the Customized Employment program at ConneXions. With his determination and wicked sense of humour, he truly has been a pleasure to work with.
When we spoke to the management at Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas in Vancouver, we knew we had found the perfect fit for him. The team there, referred to as "Cast Members" are friendly, dynamic and fun. The management team is also very communicative and inclusive. When asked what JP enjoys best about his job, he responded, "Interacting with customers and co-workers and being able to share my knowledge about movies."
One of JP's perks, as an employee, is that he is able to see many movies. This really helps when customers chat about the movie they have just seen or want to see next. JP takes great pride in working at Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas and has found employment to be really motivating; his independence has significantly increased as a result. He also feels that he is in a position to challenge some stereotypes about people living with disabilities who are in the workplace. He has been presented with some 'interesting' questions by customers and is quick to stress the realities of his situation and how capable he is.
JP started this position at the end of 2011 and is thoroughly enjoying his work environment as it is perfectly blends his passion for media and a professional, fun workplace!
