District of North Vancouver firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut a North Vancouver woman out of her truck Wednesday afternoon after it went over an embankment off Mt. Seymour Parkway and into a backyard near the intersection with Dollarton Highway.

Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP, said the 1997 black Chevrolet Tahoe went about three metres down an embankment just before 2:30 p.m., coming to a stop in a backyard.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the 61-year-old female driver, who was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The woman told police that her brakes had failed.

The truck will now undergo a mechanical inspection, said De Jong, adding the incident is still under investigation.
