When the B-Line express bus service arrives in West Vancouver later this year, it won’t be stopping in front of Irwin Park Elementary as the initial plans called for.

Mayor Mary-Ann Booth announced Monday that the Irwin Park terminus was being pulled off the table just as the municipality embarks on its public consultation process.

The West Vancouver school board had formally asked the district to find a new location for the buses to turn around, arguing the net increase of vehicles driving in front of the school would pose a risk to the safety of children when there are already so many parents driving to drop off their kids during the morning and afternoon rush.

But where the B-Line will have its terminus is now an open question in the public consultation process, which will consist of a community meeting to be held on Feb. 21 at the West Vancouver Community Centre, a series of smaller stakeholder meetings, and an online feedback form at westvancouverite.ca/b-line.

Also on the public consultation to-do list: whether the bus priority lanes will be in effect 24 hours a day or on a reduced schedule, and whether the proposed bus stop locations can be tweaked to save more on-street parking.
